Chapter 2
1.    Why was Oliver careful to hide after running away from Mr Sowerberry's?
People would take him back to Mr Sowerberry.
2.    Why did Oliver decide to go to London? Mention two reasons.
Mr Bumble could not find him. To find good life.
3.    How did Oliver go to London? How long did it take him to go there?
On foot. Seventy miles in seven days.
4.    What did Oliver do during his long journey to London?
He followed signs , sleeping in fields and eating very little.  
5.    Who helped Oliver to go to London? What was he like?
Jack Dawkins, the Artful Dodger. He was wearing a man's coat and a tall hat.
6.    How did Jack Dawkins seem to be kind to Oliver when they first met?  
He bought Oliver a meal.
7.    Why was Oliver disappointed as soon as he reached London?
 London was not as he expected.The  streets were poorer and dirtier.
8.    Who was Fagin? What was he like?
Fagin was the leader of the gang.He was an ugly old man with red hair.
9.    What did Oliver see Fagin doing when he woke up?
Taking gold watches and expensive jewellery out of a wooden box.
10.     Why did Fagin threaten Oliver with a knife?
He wanted to make sure that Oliver didn't see anything.             
11.     Why did Oliver think that Fagin was a miser?
He was rich but lived in an old place.
12.     What did Oliver think about the way Fagin used all his money?
Fagin used all his money to look after the boys.
13.     What little game did Fagin show Oliver?
He showed him how to steal wfrom people.
14.     Why did Oliver not question Fagin's advice?
Fagin was kind to him.
15.     Why did Mr Brownlow look puzzled  when he saw Oliver in his house?
Oliver looked like the woman in the painting.
16.     What did the magistrate decide first concerning Oliver? Why did he change his decision?
To go to prison.The owner of the bookshop said that Oliver didn't steal anything.
17.     What happened to Oliver when it was decided that he should go to prison?
He felt ill and fainted.
18.     How was Oliver when he went to Mr Brownlow's house for the first time?
He was very ill.
19.     Why was Oliver amazed to see the painting of the pretty woman?
She looked like him.
20.     Why was Fagin so angry to hear that Oliver was caught by the police?
Oliver would tell the police about the gang.
21.     Who was Mr Sikes, or Bill? What did he look like?
He was one of the gang. He was an angry looking man with big, strong shoulders.
22.     Who was Nancy?
She was a young woman who worked for Mr Sikes.
23.     Why did Mr Sikes suggest sending Nancy to the police station?

The police didn't know her.
